Novel Project step 2.0

Literary Techniques examples and definitions

Symbolism: using an object to represent an idea that cannot be drawn nor touched.
Example: In Pocahontas the wind shows her mother and peace. Whenever she is mentioned, the wind appears and peace is transmitted.

Foreshadowing: a HINT about what is coming later in the story. Example: Cinderella. The look of her mother in the darkness shows that she is plotting something bad for Cinderella

Flashback: when story is interrupted to go towards something that happened in the past.
Example: Lion King. Zimbabwe has a flashback about watching Mufasa die.

Atmosphere: the way the SETTING feels. Does not refer to characters mind.
Example: An Extremely Goofy Movie. Goofy feels the home different after his son left to college.

Plot Twist: when something unexpected happens. Must have had clues.
Example: Bambi. The music and the mother's alertness hint the mother going to be shot
